Why I built Pickup
I'm Ralf. I kept hearing the same thing from tradespeople: you're up a ladder, the phone rings, and by the time you're free the customer's called the next name on Google. A missed call is a missed job.
Pickup is the fix — an AI receptionist that answers when you can't, takes down what the caller needs, and texts you the lead so you ring back on your own time.

FAQ
Does Pickup integrate with my calendar?+
No need — Pickup comes with its own built-in calendar. When a call comes in, the job lands on your dashboard; you confirm it, pick a time, and it's on your calendar. No Google Calendar, no syncing, no setup — and nothing's booked until you say yes.
Will my customers know it's an AI?+
Most won't. Pickup uses a natural British voice and has a tight, conversational script. We tell callers it's an assistant — we don't pretend to be you. Customers care that the call gets handled, not who handled it.
Do I need to change my phone number?+
No. Pickup uses your existing mobile. You enable a single 'forward if no answer' setting on your handset (one short code, takes 30 seconds), and missed calls go to Pickup. You still answer calls when you can.
How long does my phone ring before Pickup answers?+
About 15–20 seconds by default (roughly 4–5 rings) — long enough for you to grab the phone if you're free, short enough that the caller doesn't hang up. You can customise it though: a longer dial code lets you pick any of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 seconds. Up a ladder a lot? Try 25 or 30. Always too busy to answer anyway? Drop it to 5 so the AI picks up almost immediately. Full instructions are in your setup guide once you sign up.
What if it gets it wrong?+
Pickup is hard-wired to escalate rather than guess. It never quotes prices. It never confirms same-day work without you. It tells gas-leak callers to ring 999. And every call is recorded and transcribed — you'll see exactly what was said.
What if I'm a sparky / decorator / locksmith, not a plumber?+
Pickup is trade-tuned. We have prompt templates for the main UK trades — plumbing, electrical, gas, decorating, locksmiths, mobile mechanics, and more. We adjust the script to your trade during onboarding.
How long does setup take?+
About five minutes, all self-serve. After you sign up, you dial one short code on your phone (**61*[your-pickup-number]#) to forward unanswered calls to Pickup. That's it. No calendar to connect, no app to install, no video call to schedule.
